Research and Outreach

CEFS conducts research and outreach out of six distinct units: the Pasture-based Beef Unit, the Dairy Unit, the Alternative Swine Production Unit, the Organic Cropping Systems Unit, the Farming Systems Research Unit, and the Small Farm Center. Each Unit provides research opportunities for faculty as well as demonstration models for farmers, extension agents, and students. To fiind more information about each Unit, see links to the left.

CEFS also facilitates several marketing initiatives with the North Carolina community including the NC Choices Hog Producers Program and the CSA Program at Research Triangle Institute. The Organic Grains Program provides outreach to farmers and agricultural small businesses interested in growing the organic grains sector in North Carolina.

In addition to research based at each unit, CEFS conducts research initatives that are housed over several Units. These research topics include: Conservation Tillage, Integrated Pest Mangement, and Meat Goat Research. Information about these projects will be posted soon.
