Outdoor Hog Production Position

CEFS is looking to hire a seasonal, full-time (paid hourly) worker for a research project that is designed to determine the impact of outdoor reared hogs on vegetation and soil disturbance. The person will be responsible for assisting the CEFS, NCSU and NCDA workers manage and handle the day to day activities of the research. Tasks will include: feeding, watering, maintaining fencing, collecting data on animal health, growth and behavior, collecting data on weather conditions, vegetation and soil parameters and data logging. While most of the work will be done at CEFS, there will be opportunity to work at other research and “on-farm” demonstration sites (transportation will be provided for travel away from Goldsboro).

The position is located in Goldsboro, NC at the Center for Environmental Farming Systems. Housing on-site in close proximity to sustainable farming interns and apprentices at the Center can be arranged if desired. Organic Tomato Research Manager

NCSU is looking to hire a seasonal, full-time (paid hourly) manager for a research project investigating a promising new approach to growing organic tomatoes in the U.S.! The project manager will be responsible for the management of organic tomato production such as staking, irrigation, pruning, harvesting and learn about using grafting techniques to improve heirloom tomato disease resistance and season extension in the organic community. In addition to learning techniques for disease monitoring and identification and assessing the progression of plant growth, they will have the opportunity to assist with sampling plant nutrient levels and data collection to evaluate differences in nutrient uptake in grafted and non-grafted plants. The position is located in Goldsboro, NC at the Center for Environmental Farming Systems. Housing on-site in close proximity to sustainable farming interns and apprentices at the Center can be arranged if desired. Spiderwort Scout Position at CEFS

Description: 2-person crew needed (35-40 hrs / week) to conduct detailed GPS field surveys at Center for Environmental Farming Systems, Goldsboro, NC.

Employment Period: March 2008

Qualifications: We are seeking responsible, hard-working individuals with willingness to learn plant identification, GPS operation, and GIS applications. Preference given to applicants having experience in data collection and agricultural research. Must have a valid U.S. driver's license. Transportation to Goldsboro will be provided.
